Abstract Data Visualization in Outdoor AR
Problem
For many data-driven tasks, visualizing data in its original environmental context brings benefits to fulfil the task. Visualization methods that deal with linking of data to their origin are often grouped with the term "situated visualization”. If these representations are overlaid to a user’s view of the real world (using either head-mounted displays or seethrough AR), we speak about augmented (AR), mixed (MR) or cross reality (XR). In the context of this work we are particularly interested in applying this technology outdoors.
Aim
The goal of this work is to conduct a structured state-of-the-art overview of available approaches to apply situated visualization in outdoor AR contexts.
