In this paper we focus on social rewarding mechanisms that generate benefits for users in order to achieve a higher contribution rate in a wiki system. In an online community, social rewarding is in the majority of cases based on accentuation of the most active members. As money cannot be used as a motivating factor others like status, power, acceptance, and glory have to be employed. We explain different social rewarding mechanisms which aim to meet these needs of users. Furthermore, we implemented a number of methods within the MediaWiki system, where social rewarding criteria are satisfied by generating a ranking of most active members.}, year = {2007}, journal = {Proceedings of HCI International - 12th International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (HCII 2007)}, volume = {4564/2007}, pages = {362–371}, publisher = {Springer}, isbn = {978-3-540-73256-3}, url = {http://www.cvast.tuwien.ac.at/sites/default/files/publications/PDF/2007/hcii_2007/social_rewarding/final/hoisl_2007_hcii_social-rewarding.pdf}, doi = {10.1007/978-3-540-73257-0_40}, note = {LNCS}, language = {eng}, }
